Prince kicks a@#!!!

So I had an opportunity to watch Purple Rain for the first time this weekend. I'm not sure what it was. Maybe the fact that Prince is from Minneapolis and much of the movie is filmed at First Avenue, a joint I've spent a few nights of my life at. Or perhaps it's the stage of life I'm at where I'm realizing that the level of success we achieve is directly related to the level of risk we're willing to take. Or maybe it was Prince's unbridled intensity throughout the film. As if God had tapped him on the shoulder and said "Hey buddy, this is your one shot at super-stardom...go make something happen."
Whatever it was it flipped a switch for me. To see a guy come from relatively nowhere and rise to fame as one of the greatest musicians of our age is just amazing. And inspiring. Who else would have had the audacity to write a song titled "My Name is Prince"?
There are a ton of example of people with the guts to go full bore after their dreams. I'm trying my darnedest these days to immerse myself in their stories and learn from their lives. It's so easy to get up in the mundane and mediocre. People like Prince/Dylan/Gates/Oprah/Tiger/Wie/Cuban/Venter/etc. are living and breathing reminders that that isn't how life is to be lived.

Help

Oh, yeah! It's been a while since I've seen it… indeed a powerful movie… touching, inspiring, and vibed all the way through. I loved it! This is your first time seeing it? Jon, how old are you? ;) {giggles}
“Or maybe it was Prince's unbridled intensity throughout the film. As if God had tapped him on the shoulder and said “Hey buddy, this is your one shot at super-stardom…go make something happen.”
man, that movie is soooo old :) yeah, Prince rocked it!
but if you want to see real intensity, you haven't seen it until you see the late Stevie Ray Vaughan Live at El Mocambo. go look it up and you'll see what i mean :)
~C (for Calluses from playing the blues)
I'll definitely hook up Stevie Ray on Netflix. That sounds awesome.
And yup, my first time watching it at 30 years old after growing up in Minneapolis…I know that's a bit bizarre. :)
And I'm trying to decide what my favorite song is in the movie. “Purple Rain” and “The Beautiful Ones” are both amazing but right now I think I'm partial to “Baby, I'm a Star.”

Oh baby I’m a (star)
Might not know it now
Baby but I r, I’m a (star)
I don’t want to stop, ’til I reach the top
Sing it! (we are all a star!)
Audacity personified…

i say Purple Rain is cool but Kiss is uber-cooler! :)
I've been wanting to see this movie for over 20 years(!!) myself!! I'll make a note of this..
The soundtrack I did buy, and it's still among my favourites, along with The Matrix and Twin Peaks.
Prince is inspiring, and he's vegan too ;)
